I have a glove compartment / you gotta love it love it / I have a glove compartment / oh I love it love it / I stick my hand in it / I stick my things in it / a flashlight and a map//

Blackrock 06:12
It wasn’t bad I just went to sleep / In 1925 spelunker Floyd Collins was trapped in Kentucky’s sand cave / and people came to watch 10,000 a day / sat in the sand and ate their lunches / when Jesus died so the bible says / they put him in a cave / they wrapped his body / for three dark days the earth shaked shaked shaked / for three dark days the earth quaked quaked quaked / It wasn’t bad I just went to sleep/no explosion just asphyxiation / no cancer no emphysema / no little girl with one leg stuck behind her back / underground underground where the dead are buried / and if I die doing this same job / the grief and rage the terror the fascination / will it have been worth it / it wasn’t bad I just went to sleep / when Jesus died so the bible says / poor Mary cried when she found that cave empty / but Jesus smiled he tapped her on the shoulder saying / it wasn’t bad I just went to sleep / and what is underground / entombment entrapment something primal / where the dead lie carved into black rock / breathe in breath out blackrock//

Hraka 03:41
I think about it / It kinda makes my heart sick / you keep me up at night / and now I need a new dream / cause I was never yours / and you were never mine / thank god it’s springtime / if I could change the subject / I’m sure you wouldn’t object / nothing seems the same / so I’ll be leaving in May / the ties that bind or the lies that blind / thank god it’s springtime / you knew what you needed to say / but that’s not what you said / I knew what I wanted to do / but that’s not what I did / I think about it / It kinda makes my heart sick / you keep me up at night / and now I need a new dream / cause I was never yours / and you were never mine / thank god it’s springtime / you knew what you needed to say / but that’s not what you said / I knew what I wanted to do / but that’s not what I did / I’m in the middle of the road / and I’ve lost my way / but that’s all gonna change / cause everything begins tonight//

Geology 03:54
Film shot of a crowd dispersing into a city from under the sky / I could see for miles around / her voice carries down the streets and over the crowd / I could see her for years / Geology studies rocks and drinks the sediment from the earth / it flooded here once he said / one day they’ll build roads to build cities to build up this land / and dare to call it progress / oh the rocks! oh the rocks! oh the lines all these years / oh all the time / all the time spent in wax museums of wax museums of wax museums / little stutter steps to the end zone / seems as though we’re lost we’re lost and we don’t know where to go from here / geology studies rocks and drinks the sediment from the earth / it flooded here once he said//
7.
Flying 03:46
You’re flying down this highway / backseat if you keep the windows closed / you can’t smell the city / and it seems like there’s really no need for guardrails / with all of this manufactured housing / and the rhythm is your heartbeat / and the tires on the concrete / the rhythm is your breath and the whir of your brain / the radio stations they keep fading in and fading out / you’re waiting for the glorious downbeat / where it all gets figured out / the median is a no man’s land / full of trash and burned out cigarettes / counting exits is the only thing keeping time / the next rest stop is another sixty miles / there’s a flock of birds / a mad cloud swimming through the air / someone left the laugh track on too loud / you close your eyes and dream / intermittent retaining walls / are only a coy reminder that there’s no escape from sound / and you’re lying in the backseat / and the rhythm is your heartbeat / and the tires on the concrete / the rhythm is your breath and the whir of your brain / the radio stations they keep fading in and fading out / you’re waiting for the glorious downbeat / where it all gets figured out//
8.
Let’s move to Alaska / they’ll pay us to live there / and we can run across the Bering Strait / buy spices for our families there / and run back across and still get paid / We’ll kayak all the rivers no matter how deep or wide / hunt the elk herds like they’re cattle with our guns and laser sights / we’ll go fishing with bows and arrows and sticks of dynamite / sink our beer cans to the bottom in the early morning light / We’re miners in the 1900s in a little booming town / Idaho City, Idaho City, Idaho City, Idaho / where we’re pannin for gold / always pannin for gold / pannin for gold in Idaho City, Idaho / pannin for gold, always pannin for gold / and we’ll shoot our neighbors if they start pannin our own / pannin our own claim / if you see me wrestling a grizzly bear and readin him his rights / you’ll know I’m wearin a hat I ain’t never worn before / not a beret or a cowboy hat or a baseball cap / no a little black cap like Charlie Chaplin used to wear / and a nice black suit and I got a picture camera / a picture camera takes pictures, freezes moments in time / like of you standing there by the old post office / where I tie my ‘ol stick pony to the post to the post / I tie my ‘ol stick pony to the post outside the ‘ol post office which is also a bar//

The Plumest 04:35
When all the plums have ripened / and withered in their thirst / when the sky has been painted grey / by the wings of migrating birds / This will be the last time / I will dream of spiders / and I will dream in grey / the moon comes somersaulting / salt and pepper salt and / the night has brought me feathers and pebbles and footsteps / this will be the first time / I won’t wake up with cold shakes / staring up at three tiny perfectly folded cranes / chewing at the inside of my cheeks my teeth / this will be the last time / this will be the first time / this will be the best time / I will give myself / I will let myself / I will shed myself / and I will see myself / This will be the best time / When all the plums have ripened//

Put your hands to the water / ignore the clean metallic burn / put your ear to the water / let it slap snap snap crack crack slap slap / but listen / I would sew 10,000 feathers / blood blood / pull the thread forget the thimble / blood blood / time travel’s got me torn, got me tangled up / don’t know where I’m gonna go gonna go go / Michael J Fox on my mind from my childhood / don’t know why he’d want to go back in time time go back in time time / I lost both my feet to the cold weather / don’t know how I’m gonna run gonna run run / wish I had the dolorean / I could just drive, drive the dolorean drive drive / drive the dolorean drive drive / thank god I have you in my heart and mind / taking care of me with your needle and your thread thread / now I’ll take you to the prom in your blue dress / beat up Biff and play Johnny B Goode Goode Johnny Johnny Goode Goode / time travel’s got me torn got me tangled up / don’t know when I’m gonna go / now I’ll take you to the prom in your blue dress / beat up Biff and then go / go go go / put on your wings let’s go / all the wings in a row//

Oh the wind pushing all the leaves / like child’s hands waving goodbye / he’s a soldier, a saint, an ocean explorer / a president, a pacifist, and auto restorer / and it’s alright that he don’t breath no more / cause he settled through the cracks between the floorboards//

about

The long awaited debut full length from one of America's hardest working bands at the apex of their abilities. Finn Riggins continues to prove why they've kept rock critics guessing during their 150+ live shows during the past year. A Soldier, A Saint, An Ocean Explorer is no exception, melding synthy, stoney, crunchy and poppy with inventive progressions and uncommon time signatures and downright weird sounds (bugs, toys, binary chanting etc.) From the opening growl of Glove Comprtmnt to the final ghostly strains of A President, A Pacifist, An Auto Restorer, Finn Riggins is burning down the U.S. two ears at a time.
